Don Jose Mexican Restaurant in East Hanover

Great food!!! We had unfortunately not been able to get to Don Jose as much as we would have liked before being quarantined. But they have nailed it both times we have ordered from them since. Can't wait until we can actually go back and sit-down.

Best Mexican food place in the area. Friendly staff. Can also order take out for pickup.

Food was good but service terrible...they kept rushing us.. The owner came to us and I asked did you want us to leave? His answer ... there are people waiting and I'm losing money...well the is the last time we will be going! So rude!

Yummy and authentic Mexican cuisine in a brightly decorated dining space. Prices are in line with other restaurants in the area. Service is generally fast and friendly with no frills. This place always seems to be busy so be prepared to wait if you come at a peak time. Minus 1 star for advertising a 10% discount on Verizon rewards and then not honoring it.

This is one of my favorite local Mexican restaurant! Very good food and service. And I love how it even have live music sometime. It's just fun times here.

My wife and I first came here about 2 years ago, visited again today and wasn't bad. Salsa and chips were good, the hot sauce (if you ask for the really hot one) is really great but have some water ready! We ordered the nachos and jalapeño poppers....nachos were a little burnt at the tips, poppers were a bit soggy at the bottom. For our main course we ordered chicken flautas and chicken enchiladas which were good. Being generous here with 4 stars.

I gave this “restaurant” as they would call this place one star because although the food was quick. As soon as we entered yes the place looks nice but looks isn’t everything. We weren’t greeted immediately, the food arrived fast but the plates were very hot, I was burned and it taste as if it was microwaved and the amount of food was miniscule. I have been to many Mexican restaurants that had bigger portions for the buck. Don’t believe the reviews because I did, and now here am I.

Quaint, family owned, with an atmosphere to due for. The decorations make you feel like your dining in an open air Mexican market. The food is the best in the area. BYOB

Great place to take the kids... they have live music sometimes and they play songs on request. Heh.. every other song requested is from the movie Coco.. love the food here.

We came to this spot for lunch. we heard about this restaurant from many people. Well, it was a winning. The staff welcomed us with a smile and we felt very good. The food was just great. We had a great time and we shall absolutely come back again. Keep it up.

I agree with Mark! For a strip mall Mexican restaurant it's 5 stars! But the SERVICE can be 3 stars. With menu pricing not reflected on the bill and charging for extra Salsa.Great ambiance, decor, picturesque tables and chairs.The food was good, well executed amd piping hot (they warmed up the plate they served the food on before placing the entree. The free chips and salsa were spicy and tasty!The quacamole could use improvement.Service was very prompt, observant, and responsive.Prices are very reasonable. Although they should update some of their menu prices because my entree was 55 cents more than listed.

This place is located in an unassuming strip mall, not visible from the highway. Walk in, though, and one is transported into a colorful wonderland full of color, sound, and flavor!We were seated and promptly brought freshly-made tortillas and some fresh, chunky salsa with the perfect mix of spices and bite.The main course was delivered piping hot in just a couple minutes. Nicely done, well seasoned. Tip of the hat to the Chile Relleno ... Usually a good indicator of quality. Beef and chicken burritos were excellent, as were the enchiladas.Can't wait to go back and try more. Wish one could award four and a half stars ... Very few places are perfect - but this is pretty close!

The food was great. Place is a little small but the atmosphere is great. They have a live mariachi band that goes around to each table. Simple Mexican food. Would definitely go back.

Very authentic Mexican food. There table salsa is perfectly spicy and was super super fresh. I ordered the blackened chicken fajitas and was not disappointed; plus the prices are crazy reasonable. I am deff going back.

Food was fresh and staff were nice. Overall though the food is pretty bland. Surprising they didnt have spicier sauce ready to go at a Mexican place but they didn't. The ambiance is nice and on a Saturday night they had some.live Mariachi singers which was a nice touch overall! BYOB and seemed to be good for groups.

Never wrote a review like this for a food place, but literally everything but the FOOD was good. Nice decor, music in background gives you the authentic Mexican feeling. Rice stale, chicken and streak filled tacos with nothing but cheese in it. I could have made that at home myself.

Beautiful place and great stuff. Some items of the menu are very good, but others less. It all depends of the person taste.

This is the best Mexican restaurant anywhere nearby. The food is excellent. The family behind the business couldn’t be nicer. We’ve been coming here for probably coming up on two decades and have no intention of stopping any time soon. I can’t recommend Don José more.

Ordered the two tacos and they were taco bell quality. They came in a hardshell and they were soggy. Rice and beans were ok but very small portions for the price. Would not recommend to a friend.

Nice place nice ambience good service good food

I feel like I'm getting the real deal at this place with everyone working there being Mexican. However, you can tell so easily most of it is microwaved. #1 I don't want microwaved food, #2 and this is the kicker and really pisses me off "STOP filling the glasses with so much ice and charging for each soda"! You give free unlimited chips but charge for each soda. I'd rather get the free refills and get no chips. I would have given 5 stars for free refills and not known the foods microwaved.

i ordered Steak Fijita. Only 2 strips were thick, so they taste good. Other strips were thin, over cooked and taste like cardboard. The place was packed but the order came out at a reasonable time. Our group ordered 2 Daiquiri pitchers. We had to asked for water 2 times.

This place is my favorite. I go to many restaurants but to this restaurant I go the most. The stuff is very affectionate and the food they serve is so fresh and tasty. I never decline to have a good meal in this place. I recommend this place with pleasure.

Food was ok, and fairly priced. Waiter was friendly and quick. Adequate vegetarian choices. No alcoholic beverages. Only 2 credit cards per party is a weird rule to have.

I go with my wife to this restaurant often! This is my favorite restaurant to dine. I go there frequently. The meals are excellent, the crew is professional and the prices are fair. I enjoy being in this place to have a nice meal.

I adore this restaurant! They offer sensational dishes, they have a nice menu, The chief cook in that place is a specialist, I love very much trying all their dishes. The dishes are always fresh, the service towards the customers is very good too. I visit often this place and I was never discontended. Highly recommended.

I ordered three hard-shelled tacos. The tacos came out about five minutes after our order and they were completely soggy and mushy. All that was on them was meat and lettuce and a tiny bit of cheese. Honestly they tasted pretty bad almost exactly the same as Taco Bell.

I've eaten at both this location as well as the Roxbury location. The experience is the same. Fun decor, sub par service, and food made to cheap out the customer. For example, Don Jose has the audacity to cut their guacamole with sour cream or mayo but then charge the customer "Market Price." The tamale I ordered had more breading than meat. Same for my husband's steak chimichanga. It was thick with fried breading with little meat. However, they charge as if they're giving you a fair amount! My horchata tasted like cinnamon water. Overall the food was bland, the service is less than impressive. I would not go to either location again.
